+6 ¾” x 1 ½” Demonstrating the extraordinary workmanship and skill of the Victorian period. The back of one piece of ivory drilled through its length with 9 parallel holes or channels, each of which is intersected with a series of holes, 3/16” on center through which looped tufts of boar hair are inserted and secured with steel wires running the length of the channels. The spacing so precise that even the rounded ends of the ivory back are accounted for with the tufts matching the curve. Extraordinary quality and as functional today as the day it was made.
